Update on Manny Machado : via Orioles.com

The Orioles announced Tuesday night that Manny Machado has been diagnosed with a right knee ligament sprain after an MRI taken earlier in the day. Machado was not available for an interview — with most of the team’s players gone given the rainout — and the Orioles said an update on his condition will be provided on Wednesday.

Speculating any kind of timetable for Machado, who exited Monday night’s game with the injury, is impossible at this point without any more information on the extent of the sprain and where the damage is. At this point, the Orioles are still gathering information and trying to determine whether Machado will go to the disabled list.

An X-ray taken on Machado on Monday night came back negative, and manager Buck Showalter — who knew a little bit more than he let on to reporters on Tuesday — said he felt optimistic but was still waiting to find out what the doctors thought.

“I haven’t heard anything negative,” Showalter said of Machado, who had the MRI around 2:30 p.m. “Manny seems to be in good spirits. That’s good. So we’ll see what the day brings.”

The Norfolk Tides lost 7-5 to the Buffalo Bisons tonight. Christian Walker (14th), Steve Lombardozzi (24th), Brian Ward (19th) and Jimmy Paredes (16th) all drove in runs. The rumor going around is that the Orioles are eying to call up third basemen Cord Phelps if Manny Machado goes on the DL. In 97 games with the Tides, Phelps is batting .258 with 7 home runs, 49 RBIs and 2 steals. Phelps can also play second base. Cord has played 53 big league games with the Cleveland Indians, in those games Phelps was batting .159 with 2 home runs and 11 RBI’s.

The Bowie Baysox lost 2-0, Eddie Gamboa pitched 7 innings giving up 4 hits and 2 earn runs. Gamboa also walked 3 and struck out 7. Niuman Romero, Kyeong Kang, Glynn Davis and David Freitas all had hits for the Baysox.

Jonathan Schoop = Future All-Star, Here to stay.

I had to do it, I run a fan page for Jonathan Schoop on twitter, @TeamSchoop. Ive been getting a lot of negative comments about Schoop’s recent play. And well i’m going to back him up.

First off, Schoop is still on 22 years old. Yeah, maybe he should of started the season in Double-A or even Triple-A but that didn’t happen. Buck Showalter saw something in Schoop, something that could help the team right now. And if not for Schoop who would be the second basemen? Ryan Flaherty? Jemile Weeks? Steve Lombardozzi? Maybe, but in my mind Schoop is the best choice for us. He is a future gold glover hands down. He is a wiz at 2nd base. Schoop could even develop into a decent third basemen, but with Machado there i don’t see that ever happening. Schoop at second is where he belongs.

Second, When Schoop has been hitting well, everyone cheers for him. Schoop is batting .211 (Better than Chris Davis) with 31 runs, 8 home runs and 27 RBI’s. No one even thought he would produce those kind of numbers already. Its hard to sit back and let people talk and complain. “Schoop Sucks” “Sign Back Roberts” “Send Schoop to the minors”….and so on. But when he does break out, and everyone loves him, ill remember all the “fans” who doubted Schoop. And ill remember the true fans who have always had his back.

Sorry for the blog rant but enough is enough. If you could do better than why aren’t you with the Orioles..starting? Buck see’s a star in Schoop and so do i. Give the kid a shot, hes been doing well for us. It takes time to make a star. Everyone struggles, everyone gets in slumps. But it time everyone will see how good Jonathan Schoop really is.

Kevin Gausman proved that he deserves to be in the Orioles rotation. In my opinion this was Kevin’s best start. Guasman had a perfect game going into the 4th. Kevin Gausman’s final pitching stats were 7.0 IP, 3H, 3ER, 3 BB, 2Ks : 96 pitches – 56 strikes. Kevin Gausman is now 5-3.

Darren O’Day came in the 8th inning to pitch. O’day struck out 2 of the 3 hitters he faced. Darren is such a huge key part to the Orioles pen.

Adam Jones stayed hot in the 1st inning, Blasting his 21st home run of the season. Jones finished 2 for 4 with a HR and 2 RBI

Orioles Unlikely To Move Top Young Arms, Not In On Kurt Suzuki

By Jeff Todd – MLBTradeRumors.com

The Orioles have given multiple executives the impression that they are unwilling to deal any of their best young pitching prospects to add to the MLB roster, reports Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Sherman lists Kevin Gausman, Dylan Bundy, and Hunter Harvey as the prospects that the team seems uninterested in dealing.

“We are looking for pitching depth,” Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette told Sherman. “We are going to try to supplement our team.” As Duqutte’s words seem to indicate, a less costly arm appears to be the more likely outcome for Baltimore.

Additionally, a source tells Sherman that the team is not in on Twins catcher Kurt Suzuki, though catcher remains another area that the Orioles are looking into. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports also just reported (on Twitter) that the club is not going after Suzuki. Baltimore had appeared one of the few good matches for Suzuki, who seems to have a fairly small market but remains perhaps the most attractive available backstop.

Orioles win 3-2 in extras to secure a 6-4 road trip.

The Orioles beat the Seattle Mariners 3-2 in 10 innings Sunday. T.J. McFarland picked up his 4th win of the season and Zach Britton notched his 20th save. Sunday’s Starter Miguel Gonzalez went 6 innings giving up 8 hits, 2 walks, 1 earn run and 1 strike out.

Manny Machado was back on his game going 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs. And his 2nd was the game winner. Jonthan Schoop went 2 for 3 and also drove in a run.

The Orioles now hold a record of 58-46 and is still in first place. Baltimore will come back home Tuesday to face the Angels. Chris Tillman (7-5) is scheduled to make the start against Jered Weaver.

Orioles News

The Orioles will place left-handed pitcher T.J. McFarland on the bereavement list, losing him for a minimum of three days, and add another arm prior to Tuesday’s series opener against the Angels.

McFarland’s grandmother, who was recently transferred to hospice care, passed away Sunday.

Orioles lose 4-3 to Seattle

Orioles lost a tough game today 4-3. Bud Norris was a little off his game, struggling through the early parts of the game. Bud Norris’ final stat line – 5 IP, 6H, 4ER, 3BB, 6Ks : 97 pitches, 61 strikes.

Delmon Young started at DH and went 2 for 4. Coming off a long ball last night Delmon brought a nice spark to the Os lineup. Young could steal more at-bats away from Steve Pearce, who is currently mired in a 4-for-21 slump. Buck seems to always stick with the hot hitter, so for now we should see a lot more of Delmon Young.

Manny Machado made his return to the Orioles lineup after missing the last four games. Machado went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts.

Baltimore only had three hits the whole game, Young had two and JJ Hardy added a hit and drove in his 31st RBI of the season.  Orioles are now  57-46 and still in first place leading the Yankees and Blue Jays by three games. Baltimore will face Seattle tomorrow. Miguel Gonzalez (5-5) will get the start against Seattle’s young firearm Roenis Elias.

Ubaldo Jimenez will start at Aberdeen on Tuesday, Britt Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.

Orioles have interest in Kurt Suzuki

The Baltimore Orioles have shown interest in Twins catcher Kurt Suzuki. The Orioles have used Caleb Joseph and Nick Hundley as there subbing catchers since the loss of All-Star Matt Wieters for the season.

Caleb Joseph has done a fairly good job starting. Joesph is batting 195. with 3 home runs and 12 RBI’s. Nick Hundley has also seen time behind the plate. Hundley is batting .237 with 3 home runs and 13 RBI’s.

Kurt Suzuki (30) is a former 2014 All-Star and in 2004 Suzuki won the very 1st Brooks Wallace Award given to the best college shortstop. Suzuki is batting .308 with 2 long balls and 40 RBI’s. Suzuki would bring power and a strong vet arm behind the plate for the Orioles.
